Day 37, OSEP trip! (9th Oct)

On 9th October, Ashley, Zhongping, Boonwee and I decided to visit the Grand palace in Korea. It was also a public holiday, known as Korean Proclamation Day. It is a day that commemorates and marks the invention of Korean alphabets, invented by King Sejong. It takes around 1 hour and 10 mins to reach there by train. The palace is also known as GyeongBokGung in Korean.

Day 37

We reached GyeongBukGong at around 12pm. It was a day with clear blue skies, and we are just in time to see the guard changing ceremony.

We went on the purchase our tickets and it was actually really affordable! Only 3000 won for adults and 1500 won for youths!

This is how the palace looked from the outside. It is really really huge and magnificent.

This is the inside of the palace. However, they have barricaded the entrance as we may spoil the antiques, therefore we can only view it from the windows.

There are also many other 'blocks' of palaces, not only the main one. The other palaces are were the maids and servants stay.

Here's the four of us taking a photo at one of the servant palaces.

There is also a museum where we can see all the ancient artifacts from the museum. However we didn't manage to take a lot of photos, but I took a snapshot of this Hanok Village. It is the old house that Koreans used to live in.

We ended the palace trip at around 5pm and went on to walk around the streets outside the palace. As it was a public holiday, huge crowds can be seen on the streets. We then walked down further and saw a booth about the Sewol ferry accident.

The Sewol ferry accident is an accident that happened on April 16, 2014.
The accident occurred when the ferry that was carrying approximately 450 people, capsized. The people that the ferry was carrying were mainly high school students going on a field trip to Jeju, Many people have died and many more are still missing. The booth is set up as a memorial for the people who have perished,

This is a message wall, where people can write their wishes for the friends and family of the deceased or missing.

That was the last destination for the day, and after that we left the area and headed back to our dormitory. We felt saddened for the lost lives in the accident, and also felt sad for the friends and families of the victims. From that, it was when we learnt that we must cherish our loved ones while we can, and also be thankful for everything that they have done for us,

Signing off,
Yuyang.
